Brain Awareness Week 16th to 22nd March


Brain Awareness Week is a worldwide initiative to make people more aware about the brain, including brain research, brain health and care of the brain. The highlight of the week in Auckland is the Neurological Foundation Open Day on Saturday 21st March at the Faculty of Medical Health and Sciences at Auckland University, 85 Park Road (opposite the city hospital).

This day runs from 9.30am until 4pm and includes a wide range of lectures and seminars. These include Dr Kiri Brickell on "The genetics of Alzheimers Disease" at 10am and Professor Richard Faull on "The marvel of the human brain" at 11am.

Dr Chris Perkins, author of the book "Dementia in NZ guide" will be speaking on behalf of Alzheimers Auckland at 12 noon in the seminar room. Alzheimers Auckland Inc will have a stand at the event and will many other organisations such as the Stroke Foundation, Parkinsons Auckland and Brain Injury Association.
