Doing our OE the old way...

The Auckland skyline of the early 1960s when the Methodist Trinity Church at the top of Pitt Street, the spires of St Matthew's at the top of Wellesley Street West, and St Patrick's on the crest of Wyndham Street were still visible from the harbour. The dominant building on the skyline (at right) was the Farmers Trading Company complex in Hobson Street. This photograph was taken from the vantage position of Stanley Point as the new P & O-Orient Line super-passenger liner Oriana, with its flower-pot funnel, comes in to berth at Princes Wharf as the sun rises over Auckland. Berthed at Queens Wharf is the M.S. Johan van Oldenbarnevelt of the Nederland Line.
